Maintenance Keeps Your E-bike Running Smooth

Whether you want to make your workout more fun or are an ardent cyclist and love going on long bike trips, bring home an e-bike. An electric bike can be either propelled by pedals or a small motor.
There are several benefits to electric bikes. An e-bike does not use fuel and can save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars on fuel when compared to other methods of motorized transportation. Maintaining an e-bike is much easier than maintaining an automobile. E-bikes provide a good workout and can help lose weight.
Cycling can strain the lower back, causing pain and discomfort. Riding an electric bike requires less effort than physical biking. The pedal assist mode on e-bikes provides power from the motor to help reduce pedaling effort and improve efficiency.
In addition to helping you work on your fitness, an e-bike can help you reduce your carbon footprint. Unlike automobiles, e-bikes do not use fuels and thereby do not emit noxious greenhouse gases that damage the environment.
A silent evolution is taking place in the country. An increasing number of people are buying e-bikes instead of cars and motorcycles. If this trend continues, one day there might be more e-bikes on the roads than automobiles.
Like every other machine, e-bikes require periodic maintenance. Regular maintenance addresses current issues and prevents potential problems from occurring. It reduces wear and tear and can even reverse age-related deterioration to a certain extent.
A well-maintained e-bike performs optimally and is less likely to break down suddenly without any prior warning. It can also save you money on repairs in the long run. Periodic maintenance can add years to your e-bike’s service life, help keep warranty intact, and help you get the most out of it.
To help you keep your bike in mint condition, we have compiled a list of maintenance tasks and how often they should be performed.
Before a Ride
➢Check the Battery – Be sure to check your battery level before heading out. Make sure it is fully charged to ensure optimal performance
➢Check Your Brakes – Brakes are an integral part of your e-bike. Check your front and rear brakes to see if they’re working properly. Keep an eye out for obvious issues such as worn brake pads or rotors and loose or damaged parts. If anything is amiss or your brakes lack power or are rubbing, take your bike to a mechanic for inspection
➢Check and Inflate Tires – Properly inflated tires will improve the safety and performance of your e-bike. To steer clear of any issues, always check your tires for pressure and adjust tire pressure before heading out for a ride
Every 3-4 Rides
➢Clean Your Bike – Different electric bike components accumulate dirt over time. Dirt, dust, and debris can get lodged in different parts of your e-bike, negatively impacting their performance. Use a moist, soft cloth or rag to get rid of dirt and grime accumulated on your e-bike’s frame, motor housing and wheels.
➢Lubricate the Chain – The chain of an e-bike transfers power to the drive wheel to propel it. Many e-bike chains are a part of the drivetrain and come under heavy strain. To reduce friction and prevent premature deterioration, periodically lubricate your chain.
Every 6-12 Months
➢Have a Pro Maintain Your E-bike – Have a professional inspect and maintain your bike every year or biannually. The objective of regular professional maintenance is to spot problems early so faulty components can be repaired or replaced in a timely manner.
Care For Your Battery
Your e-bike’s battery is its powerhouse. A discharged battery won’t provide any power to the motor and you won’t have pedal assistance. Follow these tips to care for your battery:
➢Keep your battery charged. To prevent premature degradation, avoid charging your battery to 100% too often (once every few weeks is fine)
➢Store your battery in a cool, dry place. E-bike batteries should be charged before being stored
➢Periodically clean it. To prevent oxidation and corrosion, thoroughly clean the connections after every ride
